Harry Erik Berg tekee veistoksia vanhasta puusta.
Hän on filosofian maisteri Helsingin yliopistosta. Lisäksi hän on opiskellut arkkitehtuuria Teknillisessä korkeakoulussa sekä kuvanveistoa, maalausta ja korutyötä Helsingin työväenopistossa, Vantaan aikuisopistossa, Oriveden opistossa ja Valamon luostarin opistossa.
”Veistokseni on tehty vanhasta ja hylätystä puusta. Olen löytänyt puut kaatuneina metsästä ja puutarhoista. Hirsiä ja vanhaa puutavaraa löytyy tuttavien liitereistä. Puun kuivuminen ja alkavien vaurioiden pysäyttäminen vaatii vuosien ajan. Vanhat puut ovat halkeilleita ja niissä näkyy metsän eliöiden ja mikrobien vierailut. Kiertotalouden näkökulmasta puuveistoksen sisällä voi olla toinen pienempi veistos, käyttöesineitä, koruja ja aivan lopuksi multamaata ja tulta. Kiertokulku voi jatkua ikuisuuden. Hitaita hetkiä -näyttely kumpuaa pysähtymisestä ajatusten äärelle.”

Harry Erik Berg sculptures from old wood. He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Helsinki. In addition, he has studied architecture at Helsinki University of Technology and sculpture, painting and jewellery at the Helsinki Workers’ College, Vantaa Adults College, Orivesi College and Valamo Monastery College.
”My sculpture is made of old and abandoned wood. I have found fallen trees in the forests and gardens. I have found old logs and lumber in firewood sheds. It will take years for the wood to dry and stop the incoming damage. Old trees are cracked and show visits of forest organisms and microbes. From a circular economy point of view, there can be another smaller sculpture inside the wood sculpture. There can also be small utensils, jewellery and finally mold or fire. The cycle can continue forever. The Slow Moments exhibition springs from stopping at thoughts.”
